A men’s weekend about the long journey to find yourself
September 6-8: Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury
With Alan Heeks and John Harley
Men are often trying to reach a goal, or figuring out what to aim for. Maybe as we get older, we see that the journey is significant too. This weekend is a chance to explore these themes in the fellowship of men, and supported by a magical 70-acre wood.
We will use the adventures of Odysseus to inspire our voyage, looking at the heroic journey in the outer world, the soul’s inner journey, and how they connect. Where is the island of delight or the one-eyed monster in our odyssey, and how do we meet them?
Our time together will include group sessions, solo time to reflect in the wood, plus hanging out with good food and campfires. We will use various processes, including ritual, story, song, art and play. Men of all ages are very welcome.
Hazel Hill is a 70-acre woodland retreat centre which has hosted many mens’ circles. It can offer us wisdom, nourishment, and space to unwind and ponder. There are handcrafted, off-grid wooden buildings for sleeping and meeting. We will share providing food and looking after ourselves. See more at www.hazelhill.org.uk
Alan Heeks has many years of guiding workshops and retreats, including many mens’ groups. He is especially interested in how people can learn from Nature, and in the transition from the hero’s journey to the Soul’s journey.
John Harley has been leading creative retreats for over twenty years . He has facilitated events for the Art and Spirituality Network and Be Here Create. He is a dramatherapist and Unitarian Minister. He loves working with groups and in the outdoors.
